ABOUT TIP PETERSEN
Tip was born a native Californian. He started music in kindergarden playing violin along with air guitar and singing.
By the 7th grade, he got tired of carrying around a violin case on his BMX bike and started playing Upright Bass in Orchestra.
In High School, his Orchestra was ranked the Number One High School Orchestra in the Western Region, taking Tip on his first tour while they performed at numerous schools and events across Northern California. Tip eventually started playing with original bands who were popular in the Northern California area.
They successfully toured and recorded several cds over a few years time.
In 1995 Tip moved to Los Angeles to further his musical career and to study with some of the best at Musicians Institute,
while at the same time being a contributing writer to Bass Frontiers Magazine. While studying music and working with the magazine, Tip got to meet and study under some of his biggest influences, including Tim Bogert, Phil Chen, Shem, Jimmy Hyatt, Putter Smith, Bob Magnusen, Todd Johnson, Billy Sheehan, Bunny Burnel, and Brian Bromberg, to name a few.
While studying at M.I. Tip met the now guitar idol Raphael Moriera and formed their original band Strange Sum.
Recording and playing the Los Angeles club scene, they were received very highly by musicians and music lover alike.
Now, Tip successfully works as a session player in Los Angeles working with some of the great producers like Chuck Reeves,
Ned Albright, Todd Miller, Brian Reeves, Michael Sena and Dana Meyers, and plays live shows from Tahiti to Spain.
With solid roots in Rock, Tip’s music is very Stone Temple Pilots meets The Eagles. He is currently writing and recording his next collection of songs with his new band Box45, along with long time friend and bandmate Javi Ramos. Some of the recordings will take place in Spain this year on tour for the festival of
San Mateo, Oviedo Asturias, while other songs will be captured in various studios in Los Angeles.
