WELCOME TO NABU WINES

Established in 2012, NABU Wines has been breaking down barriers since its doors opened in 2016. Named for the relationship owners Greg & Janet Barnett and Jeff Bailey have with vineyards in Napa Valley and Malibu Coast AVAs.

The Vineyards

NABU wines are crafted from amazing fruit, sustainably grown to produce both single varietal and special blend wines from Napa Valley and the Malibu Coast appellations.

When you visit the winery you will be able to select wines grown from all over the Malibu Coast AVA, and really experience the rocky red volcanic terroir from the hillsides and oceanside vineyards in Malibu, with gives it the characteristics of smoke with red wines and beautiful mineral edges on the white wines.

How We Make It
A New & Old AVA

NABU has been excited to be the only winery to produce wines from within the mountains and oceanside vineyards located in the lowlands of  Zuma to Topanga Canyon.

In July 2014 the Malibu Coast was recognized as an AVA (American Viticulture Area) located within the Santa Monica Mountains of western Los Angeles County.

In 1824, the first grapes were planted by José Bartolomé Tapia at his estate  Rancho Topanga Malibu Sequit, a Spanish land grant. Spanish Governor José Joaquín de Arrillaga provisioned the grant to José Bartolomé Tapia in 1804.

Why We Love Music

Our Founders Greg & Janet Barnett were in the Music Industry in the 1980s when the hair was big and the scene on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood smelled like Aquanet & Leather with the sounds of Glam Rock and Heavy Metal. So you’ll definitely find some of their favorites spinning on our turntable from our huge record collection in the tasting room or songs by the bands that play every weekend at the winery.

“When you visit NABU, you’re visiting the full-production facility for our Malibu Coast wine production off the mountain and oceanside of Malibu,” Greg Barnett, who was recently named president of the Malibu Hills AVA, said. “It’s the only tasting room we have so far, so you get to taste both our Malibu and our Napa wines.”
